Anti-choice politicians in the U.S. House of Representatives are holding a hearing today on a bill that would allow hospitals to refuse to provide abortion care, even when necessary to save a woman's life.
Despite campaigning on jobs and the economy, anti-choice politicians have gone full-steam ahead in their attacks on our reproductive rights. This includes holding two hearings in two days on bills that are some of the farthest-reaching assaults on women's freedom and privacy that we've seen in years.
When it comes to attacking choice, these politicians know no bounds. I hate to even imagine what could possibly come next.
We must have the resources necessary to pull out all the stops. The bills that are getting hearings this week are part of the "Stupak on Steroids" agenda -- including the bill that would allow hospitals to refuse to provide emergency abortion care to save a woman's life. Rep. Joe Pitts, the author of that bill, was hand-picked by the National Right to Life Committee to chair the subcommittee that will vote on one of these bills.
We've been leading the charge to educate lawmakers and to organize progressive organizations to stand together and speak out against the onslaught of anti-choice attacks. But our strength is in our numbers
Make no mistake -- the "Stupak on Steroids" bills that are getting hearings this week could change women's access to abortion forever.
Our opponents' plan is clear: to end insurance coverage for abortion and make it as difficult as possible for any woman -- under any circumstances -- to access abortion care.
In order to stop outrageous attacks on our reproductive rights, we need supporters like you by our side. Help us ramp up our efforts to fight this and all egregious attacks on choice.
Sincerely,
Nancy Keenan President, NARAL Pro-Choice America

For Welsing, the world's most pressing problem is the disturbing issue of white supremacy, or racism. "I put the discussion of melanin on the board in order to [describe how pigmentation] was a factor in what white supremacy behavior was all about," Welsing noted in an interview with Michael Eric Dyson for Emerge. "If I had my way, there wouldn't be all the discussion about melanin. I would say, Discuss white supremacy." Welsing laid the foundation for her ongoing discussion of white supremacy in her groundbreaking 1970 essay The Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation and Racism. In it, she reasoned that because whiteness is a color deficiency and white people make up only a small percentage of the earth's population, they tend to view people of color as a threat to their survival and therefore treat them with hostility. She stated that their defensive reaction has been to impose white supremacy, or racism, on people of color throughout history. Basing part ... more
The anti-government protesters who have been occupying Cairo's Tahrir Square for more than two weeks now want to turn Egypt into a modern, progressive nation, including equal rights for men and women. One of their heroes is the renowned secular feminist Nawal El Saadawi. VOA's Jerome Socolovsky met up with her in Cairo.
Stephen Johnson, the EPA administrator under President Bush, was planning an aggressive effort to combat global warming until the White House shut him down , according to documents released by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA). Johnson outlined his three-phase plan to Bush in early 2008, but Bush overruled him after hearing counter-arguments from the office of Vice President Cheney and Exxon Mobil Corp. White House budget director Jack Lew said the President will seek aid for state unemployment insurance programs burdened by debt because of high jobless rates. Obama "will seek a delay of state tax increases and a suspension of interest payments owed to the federal government, along with a future increase to the minimum income level subject to unemployment insurance taxes." The head enforcement officer of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fired a warning shot to Wall Street in an interview yesterday, saying the agency plans to "immediately" use its powers to take on misbehavior by large financial institutions when the office opens in July. Richard Cordray said he will use the same aggressive approach he practiced as Ohio's attorney general. Most Americans think the Obama administration is handling the political crisis in Egypt well , according to a new poll from the Pew Research Center. Nearly 60 percent approve of Obama's response. Meanwhile, a Gallup poll shows 82 percent of Americans are sympathetic to the protesters. The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus, is warning Americans to expect " a brutal fight in the spring when Taliban insurgents try to return from their winter safe haven." Petraeus also says he will "make recommendations" on a possible timeline of withdrawal after surveying the " conditions on the ground." Today, a California district attorney's office charged 11 Muslim students with an "organized attempt to squelch" the Israeli ambassador Michael Oren's speech at UC Irvine last year. Though many protested against charges for "shout[ing] down" a speaker as overzealous, the District Attorney. said the students "preplanned violation of the law." Keith Olbermann, who recently ended his show on MSNBC, will host a new program on Current TV . Olbermann will also serve as Current TV's Chief News Officer as he hosts his " one-hour prime-time show airing each weeknight from New York." The UN's food agency warned yesterday that a severe drought was threatening the wheat crop in China -- the world's largest producer -- and is resulting in drinking water shortages. "China's grain situation is critical to the rest of the world -- if they are forced" to import grain, "it could send huge shock waves through the world's grain markets," said one industry expert. And finally: Newly elected Tennessee state Rep. Julia Hurley (R) credits her success to her time waitressing at Hooters . The 29-year-old legislator writes in the current issue of Hooters Magazine that while she has "taken quite a bit of flack" for being a Hooters Girl, "I know that without that time in my life I would not be as strong-willed and eager to become successful."
All non-white people must refrain from trying to be voluntary defense attorneys' for white people. I know you think some of them are your "buddies". Don't you realize you live in a system of racism-white supremacy? You don't see white people advocating for non-white people unless it helps to establish, maintain, expand and refine the system of racism-white supremacy. And don't fall for them calling non-whites "racist" when racism is a "system". There is no other "system" of racism in the universe beside racism-white supremacy (economics, education, entertainment, labor, law, politics, religion, sex and war). Until the system of racism-white supremacy is eradicated and replaced with a system of justice, ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE WHITE SUPREMACISTS AND/OR RACIST SUSPECTS CAPABLE OF PRACTICING RACISM-WHITE SUPREMACY!

Washington (CNN) -- White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that Friday will be his last day on the job. Gibbs announced his decision to leave in January. He will continue as an adviser to the president after he leaves the White House.
Jay Carney, the current communications director for Vice President Joe Biden, will succeed him at the podium.
Capitol Hill (CNN) -- Let's get down to the main question: what the heck is going on with jobs?
Friday confused economists tweeted in question marks as the Labor Department reported both that the unemployment rate plummeted in January (from 9.4 percent to 9 percent) and that job creation barely has a pulse (just 36,000 jobs created, a figure that usually corresponds to an increase in unemployment).
In this week's American Sauce, we are not content to be confused. We look at exactly what's going on with jobs and what's generating these conflicting numbers.
